Landslide At Myanmar Jade Mine Eliminates A Minimum Of 113 Individuals

YANGON, Myanmar (AP)– A minimum of 113 individuals were eliminated Thursday in a landslide at a jade mine in northern Myanmar, the federal government and rescue employees said, the latest in a series of lethal mishaps at the sites recently.

A statement from the Ministry of Info provided the death toll as 116, while Khin Maung Win, chairman of the Thingaha rescue group working at the website, stated the variety of the dead gone beyond 113.

Khin Maung Myint, a lawmaker from Hpakant, where the accident occurred, stated 54 individuals were hurt and sent to healthcare facilities.

Images showed a crowd in the rain collected around corpses wrapped in blue-and-red plastic sheets, laid in a row on the ground.

The Hpakant location in Kachin state is 950 kilometers (600 miles) north of Myanmar’s most significant city, Yangon, and is the center of the world’s greatest and most rewarding jade mining industry.
