PADMAAVAT - WOMAN OF COURAGE - WINS THE HEARTS  4.3/5

First thing first: What is the essence of history if it cant show the real life of people at that historical time referred to?  History books are full of  kings history - who fights - all negativities - but bereft of the niceties going on during those periods among the people.  In a conversation with the Oxford scholar Verrier Elwin in May 1931, Mahatma Gandhi said: ‘We have to rewrite our history books. History has ceased to be a record of the deeds of kings, and has become a record of the deeds of people, but it is still a record of the violent deeds of people’. THIS MOVIE HIGHLIGHTS AND PROJECTS THE NON-VIOLENT AS WELL AS SACRIFICIAL ASPECTS OF  THE PEOPLE AT THE RAJPUTS TIME.

Mahatma Gandhi also made a categorical distinction between history and myth. As he put it in 1930: ‘To us, however, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana are not historical works but treatises on religion. Or, if we call them histories, they narrate the history of the human soul; they do not tell of what happened thousands of years ago, but depict what takes place in the heart of every human being today’. Taking that into this movie, Director made the souls of Mewar people  show how beautiful human life can be under any circumstances.

PADMAAVAT STORY LINE:
Sultan of Delhi, the tyrant Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh),somehow was attracted by the beauty of queen Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) -wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor).  Sultan becomes obsessed with her and goes to great lengths to a chance to fulfill his greed.

PADMAAVAT REVIEW:  While watching, the thought coming to mind is, why such controversy for such a great Rajput highlighted film.  Some one now saying from the audience  "who ever objected were not favouring Hindus/Rajputs - they didnt want to see the Rajputs in highlight. What a shame?"

Shahid as Maharawal Ratan Singh - the ruler of Mewar, is brimming with  courage and nobleness as a Proud Rajput. He goes centuries back to vividy bring to the audience the character. which needs to get confidence and loyalty of  Mewar kingdom people as well as  Rani Padmavati's heart. Deepika glittering as the Rajput Queen whose charm, intelligence and courage moves the movie along kick started by Alauddin Khilji's obsession of her.  Deepika's  acting comes alive post interval.  Ranveer as Sultan Alaudin Khilji,  is power hungry, barbaric, womaniser,etc.. Shahid  and Ranveer flexing muscles against each other, as hero and villain.  Aditi Rao Hydari as Mehrunissa, wife of  Alauddin had to undergo shocks on the acts of maniac Alaudin Khilji.  The scene when she was finally sent off to jail for betrayal, was classic.

The director in his usual best in captivating grandeur in this movie, further enhanced are his portrayal in 3D. Cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee at his awesome best..

Padmaavat is entertaining, bringing the laurels and courage of Rajputs and  Padmavati to the scenes in great spirit.

Please expect a overall leisurely slow movie, but magnificent scenes and great human value even during adverse times.  Just an example of never lose  valour and happiness: Deepavali and Holi Celebrations as usual even when enemy surrounded the fort for many months. The  war for Alaudin Khilji is all about victory but for the Rajput King war is the test of war etiquette of a king and victory is by product.

What chaste women about to be caught by brutal enemy will do? To get the answer please watch the movie.
