VIP 2 REVIEW: Soundarya Rajnikanth and Dhanush attempt to encash the success of VIP by extending it to the 2nd   in Velai Illa Pattadhari-2. Raghuvaran (Dhanush), the brilliant engineer from a loving, middle-class family, is now trying to come to terms with married life, and hoping to build on his previous success. It’s claps all round when viewers see the  successful characters of the first film,  Raghuvaran, his father (Samuthirakani), wife Shalini (Amala Paul), and his colleague Azhagusundaram (Vivekh) to even Harry Potter, the family’s dog.

Lover was different but when she becomes wife, Shalini is now a dominant person who keeps everyone on their toes. To act like that Amala Paul must have worked very hard.  But when Raghuvaran resigns his job and comes back like same Velai illa pattadhari, Amla Paul touches every one's heart by her softening heart and speech.  Samuthirakani, is now more of a friend and guide, the role that his mother played when she was alive. Talking about the mother, the film does bring out the mother sentiment a bit — the director is aware of this and even uses it as a running gag — but a scene on the terrace mirroring a similar one from Part 1 still manages to be heartwarming.

Raghuvaran’s home play is focused clearly on generating laughs.

In Vasundhara Parameswaran. Kajol excels, as arrogant and stubborn construction company owner as much as she is self-made and successful. Her first encounter with Raghuvaran sets the stage for their conflict. They are opposites in every way. But, she sees that he is talented and wants (orders) him to work under her. And, Raghuvaran turns down her offer earning her wrath. Their encounters offer scope to make  the take-it easy hero to the matching and excelling level of antagonist. Vasundhara  proves to be quite a match for Raghuvaran

Prakash (Saravana Subbaiah), a corrupt businessman who wants to build a theme park on a marshy land. Dhanush was handed over the contract.  But when Dhansuh discovered, what happens is a fine  way of moving the film. The recent events like the jallikattu protests and the Chennai floods are used in a proper way to showcase the change of hearts. Its real life, so take it without any  cinematic  superficial turn of events; we love this approach Soundarya.

Vasundhara’s egoistic trumpet that a female making it big on her own in a male-dominated world was  busted by the dialogues and situations in the final portions. Well done Director for bringing in Thirukkural in the most productive ways in this  Tamil film. Soundarya makes it to the concept of  a man putting an arrogant woman in her place’ is captured subtly without cinematic flavour,. Vasundhara’s change of heart differently, but the way it is done here is very subtle and out of the square thinking.
We are reminded of the most successful Padayappa scenes most of the times  Dhanush and Kajol meet but in Dhanush's own style. Kajol really did very well in her character.

The songs and the score, are good. Sean Roldan's work is nice.  "

There is no big climax but it is not  expected in these kind of Dhanush movies.Change of heart of antagonist  was what made MGR's films successful.  Kudos to Aishwarya and Dhanush for keeping that fervor in tact, that is the very character of Tamil Nadu.Critics who want antagonist killed, and say this climax is not good, dont know so much of real Tamil culture.VIP2 is VVIP.
