Police told a news agency that five people have been arrested for illegally keeping bottles of two restricted phlegm syrup worth Rs 31.75 lakh in Thane district of Maharashtra. Cuff syrup containing these intoxicants is often misused for intoxication, causing a serious risk of people’s health.
Police seized 17640 bottles from the accused
An official of Narpoli police station said that on the basis of a secret information, five people have been caught in Bhiwandi city on 31 January. The detectives of the Crime Branch seized 17640 bottles of cuff syrup, including codeine phosphate (a type of opium) and other chemicals. He said that he was kept in 147 boxes and was kept for illegal sale.

The age of the accused is 24 to 25 years
The official said that we are investigating from where the accused got this stock and whom they wanted to sell it. As we find out a large supply chain, there may be further arrests. The official said that a case has been registered against five people between the ages of 24 to 45 years in the case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act and the relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
