Suspended IAS Pooja Singhal, who is in jail in a money laundering case in Jharkhand, has got a big relief. The court granted him bail on Saturday. She will now be released after being in jail for 28 months. Pooja Singhal had requested for release from jail on the grounds of detention under the new law, which was heard in the Ranchi PMLA Special Court.
Earlier during the hearing, the court had directed the Superintendent of Birsa Munda Central Jail to tell how long Pooja Singhal has been in jail and what is the period of her judicial custody. Its jail superintendent had filed his reply in the court. The lawyer of suspended IAS Pooja Singhal said that she has been granted bail under the new law.
Under this law, if the period of judicial custody of an accused who has been in jail for a long time is one-third of the sentence given in that case, then the accused can be granted bail. Pooja Singhal was arrested on 11 May 2022. In the action taken in the case related to misappropriation of MNREGA funds, a large amount of money was recovered from the house of his close relatives.
During the raid at a Ranchi-based chartered accountant, Rs 19 crore 31 lakh was seized. Accused CA Suman Kumar was said to be close to Pooja Singhal. However, Pooja was known as a multi-talented bureaucrat. He has many records in his kitty. He had passed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination at the age of just 21.
2000 batch IAS Pooja Singhal had registered her name in the Limca Book of Records. But now a big allegation of corruption has been leveled against him. She was collector in three districts of Jharkhand between 2007 and 2010. It is being told that during the same period, financial irregularities of Rs 18 crore took place in MNREGA. The then CM Arjun Munda had ordered an investigation.
