AUSTIN, Texas (AP)– Police video and documents released more than a year after the in-custody death of a Black male in Texas reveal that constable’s deputies repeatedly utilized a stun weapon on him despite several pleas that he could not breathe following a chase he stopped working to dim his headlights.

The revelations in the 2019 death of Javier Ambler raise concerns about Williamson County deputies’ practice of pursuing motorists for minor criminal activities, according to a report released Monday by the Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV. A local district attorney involved in the investigation of Ambler’s death likewise says the situations are troubling due to the fact that it was being shot for A&E Network’s real-time police reveal “Live PD.”

The details about Ambler, a 40- year-old dad of two boys, come as worldwide demonstrations continue following the death of George Floyd, a Black man who passed away after a white Minneapolis law enforcement officer pushed his knee into Floyd’s neck for several minutes while taking him into custody.
