Black Tulsans Call Trump’s Juneteenth Rally Strategy ‘A Slap In The Face’

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)– Black community and politicians called on President Donald Trump to a minimum of alter the Juneteenth date for a rally beginning his return to public campaigning, stating Thursday that prepares for a rally on the day that marks completion of slavery in America come as a “slap in the face.”

Trump campaign authorities gone over in advance the possible response to the Juneteenth date, but despite strong blowback there are no plans to alter it.

From Sen. Kamala Harris of California to Tulsa civic officials, black leaders stated it was offensive for Trump to pick that day– June 19– and that place– Tulsa, an Oklahoma city that in 1921 was the site of an intense and managed white-on-black eliminating spree.

” This isn’t simply a wink to white supremacists– he’s tossing them a welcome home party,” Harris, a leading competitor to be Democratic presidential prospect Joe Biden’s running mate, tweeted of Trump’s rally strategies.

At a minimum, Gamble Smith said, the campaign should “change it to Saturday the 20 th, if they’re going to have it.”

Trump announced the rally strategy Wednesday afternoon. It comes as his harsh law-and-order position appears to fall progressively out of sync with a growing concern over cops abuse of African Americans after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Trump project officials safeguarded the rally.
