Boulder-laden truck crushes garbage vehicle, SUV on elevated expressway in Bengaluru; 1 dies, 2 injured

Boulder-laden truck hits stationary garbage truck, which then rams into MUV

BENGALURU: A 25-year-old garbage truck driver died, and two others were injured in a chain accident, involving a boulder-laden truck, a garbage truck, and a multi-utility vehicle (MUV – Maruti Suzuki Ertiga) around 1.40am on the elevated expressway on Bengaluru-Ballari Road (KIA Road).

The deceased was identified as Faizan Ahmed, a native of Bihar. He was working as a driver of BBMP garbage truck for the last two years. Based on a primary investigation, Hebbal traffic police said the truck broke down in the right lane of the expressway near Brigade Magnum building in Kodigehalli junction. Ahmed and his assistant cleaner, Marghboob Reza, were repairing the truck with no tail-lights or reflectors on.

Meanwhile, a heavy truck, carrying three boulders, crashed into the garbage truck after its driver Harish, 36, failed to notice it parked. Due to the impact, the garbage truck toppled. Harish then drove the truck to the extreme left lane, hit the crash barrier wall, and collided with an MUV from the rear end. The MUV rammed into the crash barrier wall but fortunately, it didn’t fall down. Ahmed and Reza sustained severe injuries.

An ambulance rushed both to nearby Baptist Hospital, where doctors declared Ahmed brought dead. MUV driver’s complaint: According to the complaint filed by MUV cab driver Suneel SG, he was heading towards Sarjapura to drop passengers he picked up from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). When he was on the expressway, a truck loaded with boulders drove his vehicle at high speed and recklessly hit BBMP garbage truck.
