The president of a Fraternal Order of Cops chapter in Florida was suspended from his position at a sheriff’s workplace after he sent out a Facebook post motivating polices implicated of misbehavior in other cities to apply for tasks in Florida.
In a news conference Tuesday, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said Bert Gamin, a lieutenant at the company and president of the Brevard County FOP, was suspended with pay while an internal investigation is performed. Ivey called the posts “disgusting” and distanced his department from the FOP, a nationwide organization representing about 330,000 law enforcement officers in more than 2,000 local lodges.
Gamin fired up an outcry over the weekend after publishing numerous now-deleted messages on the Brevard County FOP Facebook page, consisting of one that said: ” Hey Buffalo 57 … and Atlanta 6 … we are hiring in Florida. Lower taxes, no spineless leadership or dumb mayors rambling on at interview … Plus … we got your back! #lawandorderFlorida.”
