National Educators Union Contact All Schools To Prepare For A Shutdown

The National Education Association, the biggest national teachers union in the nation, is calling on all schools to shut down right away for at least 2 weeks to fight the spread of COVID-19, the illness brought on by the coronavirus.

The Centers for Illness Control and Avoidance “has recommended banning all gatherings of more than 50 individuals, but exempted schools. We are calling on the CDC to update their guidance and include schools for the safety of everyone,” stated a statement from NEA President Lily Eskelsen Garcían offered to HuffPost. on Monday.

The American Federation of Teachers, the other nationwide instructors union, stated previously in the day that all U.S. schools required to prepare for a shutdown, but stopped short of requiring one immediately. It said a national school shutdown is “unavoidable.”

” Closing schools is a painful decision, but, with cautions, it’s the inevitable and right one in the midst of this extraordinary national emergency,” stated a statement from AFT President Randi Weingarten.

The National Education Association represents over 3 million members who work in class throughout the nation. The American Federation of Educators represents 1.7 million members.
