A suspect is in custody following the deadly shooting Saturday of an anti-racism demonstrator in Austin, Texas, authorities stated.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name, however his mom recognized him as Garrett Foster in an interview with ABC’s “Great Early morning America.”
Witnesses said Foster was eliminated soon prior to 10 p.m. by a driver who had threatened protesters with his cars and truck, according to The New York Times
Video recorded by journalist Hiram Gilberto Garcia showed demonstrators marching through downtown Austin, shouting “fists up, resist,” minutes prior to a cars and truck horn can be heard. A vehicle then appeared to stumble toward the crowd as its horn shrieks, prompting screams from some protesters.
As demonstrators started to move toward the vehicle, a person can be heard shouting “everybody back up” before eight gunshots called out Foster was transferred to a healthcare facility, where he was later noticable dead.
