UN requires Russia to pay reparations. How did nations vote?

The United Nations General Assembly has actually embraced a resolution requiring Russia to be held liable for breaching worldwide law by attacking Ukraine.

Passed on Monday, the resolution requires Russia to pay reparations for the damage and death throughout the dispute.

In his nighttime video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated: “The reparations that Russia will need to pay … are now part of the worldwide legal truth.”

But Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday stated Russia stands “unconditionally versus” the proposition, including that Moscow would do “whatever possible” to stop the West from taking its frozen global reserves or “ransacking” them to spend for reparations to Ukraine.

In overall, 94 of the assembly’s 193 members enacted favour of the resolution on Monday.

Fourteen voted versus and 73 countries stayed away.

The resolution specified that Russia “needs to bear the legal repercussions of all its globally wrongful acts, consisting of making reparation for injury, consisting of any damage, triggered by such acts”.
