55 reports of eye problems came to the fore
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has alerted the FDA to investigate a multi-state cluster of Verona integron- mediated metallo-β-lactamase (VIM) – and guanine-extended spectrum β-lactamase (GES) . It said that so far there have been 55 reports of adverse events due to eyedrops, including eye infection, permanent loss of vision and death from bloodstream infection.

Inspection of manufacturing plant will be done
Official sources said on Friday that two teams of central and drug regulatory bodies will inspect Global Pharma Healthcare’s manufacturing plant near Chennai after the company withdrew its eye drops linked to vision loss in the US. He said that specific eye drop is not sold in India. Sources said “Teams of CDSCO (Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation) and State Drug Controllers (three persons each) are on their way to the plant, located about 40 km south of Chennai. It is a contract manufacturing plant that markets the product to the US. Supplies. This specific drug is not sold in India.”
