Plea versus circular enabling direct contact sale dismissed.

The Supreme Court on Friday left it open for States to think about online sales and home shipment of liquor during the COVID-19 lockdown duration to help with social distancing.

Dismissing a plea challenging a federal government circular of May 1 enabling sale of alcohol through direct contact sales during the lockdown, a three-judge Bench left it to the discretion of the State federal governments to offer a mechanism for online purchasing and home shipment of alcohol.

” It will be open for the concerned State Government to consider non-direct sale consisting of online sale/home delivery of alcohol to assist in social distancing,” the Supreme Court purchased in a petition submitted by Guruswamy Nataraj.
