By India Today Web Desk: The periodic rain purchased much-needed relief as the air contamination level dipped in Kolkata on Diwali and Kali Puja. In the middle of the cautions of cyclone Sitrang, the contamination level was far less on October 24 in the city.
An authorities of the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) stated on Tuesday that the fall in air contamination might be mostly due to periodic showers because Monday early morning under the effect of cyclone ‘Sitrang’.
It cleaned the air and likewise stopped the homeowners from burning crackers.
AQI IN KOLKATA
The air quality in the city stayed in the ‘great’ classification on Monday and Tuesday. At Rabindra Sarobar in south Kolkata, the air quality index (AQI) was 43 at 11 pm on Tuesday, which had actually dipped to 168 in 2015.
Meanwhile, the AQI in Jadavpur was 44 on Monday as compared to 244 around the exact same time on the Kali Puja night of 2021.

In Bidhannagar, the AQI stood at 39, i.e. in the ‘excellent’ classification on Monday.
The air quality in the Rabindra Sarobar location stood in the ‘moderate’ classification at 102 on Wednesday.
NOISE POLLUTION
However, due to fireworks, the sound pollution level increased in the city.
As per the report by PTI, Environmentalist Somendra Mohan Ghosh exposed that the sound contamination level was high up on Monday night in parts of Tollygunge, Jadavpur, Kasba, Jorasanko, Girish Park, and Beliaghata in the city, and likewise in Salt Lake.

For the unversed, all the firecrackers other than for green crackers bearing QR codes were forbidden by the state federal government in West Bengal.
