Netflix had some important updates for all The Umbrella Academy fans today. The show has been renewed for another season, which will be arriving on the streaming platform soon. However, with the happy news also came a heads-up that broke every fan’s heart. Yes, the popular show will conclude this season.
In an announcement shared by Netflix’s TUDUM, showrunner Steve Blackman said, “I’m so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey we began five years ago. But, before we get to that conclusion, we’ve got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.”
Why Is The Show Ending After Four Seasons?
Blackman had already told Newsweek that he had a fitting end to the show even before Season 3 was released. Back then, the show’s new season was not even in the pipeline. Speaking of which, he said, “I’m not sure how many more seasons we have, but I do have a Season 4 that I think the fans will love and, you know, a great ending if it is to be our last season. I love what Gerard and Gabriel do with Hotel Oblivion. Some of it was hard to sort of translate financially, as well as sort of how we would turn it into storylines.”
Where Will The Story Pick Up From?
While the makers have not made any comments on the plot of the new season, few guesses can be drawn based on how Season 3 ended. Hargreeves decides to choose a different set of superpowered kids to form the Sparrow Academy after not being very impressed by our star siblings of The Umbrella Academy. Things unravel rather badly with an apocalypse at the end. The showdown between the Umbrellas and Hargreeves can make up the center stage for the finale season.
