14 prisoners lodged in Jhansi District Jail in Uttar Pradesh have been found to be HIV infected. There has been a stir in the jail since the information came to the fore. The jail administration has made special arrangements for the treatment of all HIV-infected prisoners. Apart from these, more than 75 prisoners lodged in the jail are suffering from other serious diseases. He is also undergoing treatment.
According to the information, 14 prisoners in the district jail were found to be HIV infected after the investigation done last days. However, these symptoms are of early stages. This disease is before the prisoner comes to the jail. But, now the jail administration has to treat them. Along with this, there are 3 inmates of cancer, 12 of tuberculosis, 22 of sugar and 24 of blood pressure.
Bypass surgery of one prisoner and heart operation of another prisoner is proposed. A grant has been sought from the government for his treatment. The heart operation will be done as soon as the money comes from the government. At the same time, the prisoners suffering from cancer are also being treated by the doctors of Kanpur Medical.

Capacity to keep 536 prisoners in Jhansi District Jail
Senior Jail Superintendent of Jhansi District Jail, Rang Bahadur Patel said, “The Jhansi District Jail has a capacity to hold 536 prisoners. Despite this, about 1,600 prisoners are lodged here. Their health checkup is done every fourth day. Apart from this, every week Homeopathy and Ayurveda doctors are also examined twice.
He further said, “There is a hospital inside the jail as well, but due to non-availability of regular appointment of a doctor, patients are treated by a doctor coming from the district hospital. At present, the number of sick prisoners is more than 75. Treatment is carried out by specialist doctors for diseases in the Jail Hospital, District Hospital, Kanpur and the Medical College of Lucknow.”
