Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given big gifts to the country on Dhanvantari Jayanti and 9th Ayurveda Day on Tuesday. On Tuesday, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several projects related to the health sector costing more than Rs 12,850 crore. PM Modi also promoted digitalization to improve health facilities and has started the U-Win Portal, which digitalizes the vaccination process of pregnant women and children. Permanent digital record of vaccination of children from birth to 17 years will be maintained through U-WIN portal.

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated five projects under the PLI scheme for medical devices and bulk drugs in line with the Make in India vision. Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi also launched a portal for allied health professionals and institutions. It will act as a centralized database of existing health professionals and institutions.

The ‘U-WIN’ portal has been developed for electronic registration and record keeping of routine vaccinations. This portal was currently being operated on the basis of pilot project. Now it has been implemented at the national level. U-WIN portal will work like Co-WIN.

Co-Win platform has been in the news during the time of Covid-19. To get vaccinated through this portal, registration has to be done and later the vaccine certificate can be downloaded from this portal. Like Co-Win, U-Win portal is being implemented across the country.

What will happen through U-Win portal?

Its objective is to maintain an electronic registry of routine vaccination. This will benefit pregnant women and infants by making the vaccination process completely digital. Through this portal, it will be ensured that timely delivery of life-saving vaccines against diseases to all pregnant women and children from birth to 16 years of age will be ensured.

Records will be kept digitally safe

Under the Universal Vaccination Programme, every step of vaccination will be recorded digitally and it will be ensured that the vaccine doses are received on time. With the help of vaccination sessions, 12 such diseases will be targeted, which can be prevented with vaccines. With the help of vaccines for these diseases, pregnant women and infants will be benefited every year. One of its objectives is to reduce the number of ‘zero-dose children’ from India, i.e. those children who were not regularly vaccinated, to zero.

How will U-Win portal work?

The U-WIN platform issues a QR-based e-vaccine certificate, similar to the Covid vaccine certificate, which citizens can download with a single click. During vaccination, this portal itself prepares a list of children who are to be vaccinated. After that, this portal sends a message alert to the parents of those children, which contains the date of vaccination and the details of the nearest health centers where they can get vaccinated. This process will ensure that no one is left out of vaccination, and more and more people get the benefit.

At present, vaccination records are still prepared manually, which causes inconvenience in maintaining physical records. Digitization of this data will enable better planning of vaccination sessions and its real-time updates. It will also address the lack of individual tracking and awareness among beneficiaries, especially in urban areas to reduce disparity in vaccination coverage across states and union territories.

The objective of U-WIN is to provide all the information and data of vaccination services at one place. This portal will start collecting data from the time of pregnancy and will later add newborn registration, vaccination records since birth and will also provide real-time updates on vaccination status and delivery outcomes.

Portal will give information about vaccination

With the digitalization of the vaccination system from the U-WIN portal, vaccination services can be availed anywhere in the country during the scheduled vaccination period. This portal system also sends SMS alerts for registration confirmation, reminding of upcoming vaccination. Digital and personal vaccination records will be maintained since the birth of the children. The government hopes that it will be able to reach children living outside its vaccination coverage.
