5 crores looted by taking fake refund! The woman had stolen from showrooms a thousand times

There is no dearth of petty and big thieves in the world, but those who steal big things in small ways definitely surprise us. Recently, a similar case has come to light from the UK in which a woman looted Rs 5 crore by taking refund for the goods which she had never bought from the shops.

54-year-old Narinder Kaur used to roam around the UK and steal clothes from expensive showrooms and later return them and get a refund. The woman must have stolen such clothes from showrooms of Bobbs, Debernams’, John Lewis, Monsoon, House of Fraser, and TK Maxx about 1000 times and she was never caught. But what eventually came to light about her in an investigation surprised everyone.

During the trial, the prosecution proved that Kaur had robbed showrooms a thousand times between July 2015 and February 2019 and then claimed refunds.

Following a four-month trial at Gloucester Crown Court, Kaur, from Claverton in Wiltshire, was convicted of 26 charges including fraud, possessing criminal property, and lying to the court and submitting false documents to avoid being convicted of harsh driving offences and to have her bail conditions relaxed.

During two police searches of her home, almost £150,000 in cash was found hidden, as well as stolen goods, the Metro reported. CCTV showed Kaur breaking into shops, stealthily removing items and carrying them off as if they had been bought before. Investigator Steve Tristram, of West Mercia Police, said: ‘Without a doubt, she has been doing this for 40 years.
