AIIMS to begin phase-1 screening of indigenous COVID-19 vaccine

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday, revealed that it will start screening volunteers for phase-1 testing of the indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin,, on healthy persons aged 18-55, without co-morbidities.

AIIMS, Delhi is amongst 12 websites noted by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) cleared to carry out human trials of Covaxin, established by Bharat Biotech.

ICMR is a partner on the Covaxin vaccine job.

” Security of those recruited will be a prime issue during the study. We ought to have the ability to provide the data within about 2 to 3 months. And we expect that if everything works out the vaccine should be ready by the end of this year or early next year,” said AIIMS director Randeep Guleria at an interview.

He added that the southeast Asian area is seeing a fairly lower COVID-19 death. “The mortality rate is much lower than what took place in Italy and Spain or what is occurring in the United States,” he said.
