In a first of its kind proposition. the Army plans to take civilians on a three- year ‘Tour of Task’ (ToD) or ‘three-year brief service’ on a trial basis to serve init as both officers and other ranks initially for a limited variety of vacancies and after that expanded later.
This is expected to result in substantial reduction in pay and pensions and maximize funds for the Army’s modernisation.
” The proposal is under factor to consider. If authorized, it will be voluntary and there will be no dilution of criteria in choice,” Army sources stated.
The total purpose of the ToD idea is ‘internship/temporary experience’ therefore there will be no requirement of attractive severance packages, resettlement courses, professional encashment training leave, ex-Servicemen status, ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Plan (ECHS) for the ToD officers and other ranks.
