NEW DELHI: The Union government’s plans to restart industrial activity in a staggered manner from Monday may have to wait as several states are yet to release operational guidelines to commence production. This would mean that India’s largest automotive clusters in the NCR region and Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu will remain shut for some more time.
The Centre had accorded sanction for partial reopening of factories from Monday subject to clearances from state governments. It had said that tech companies can bring in half their workforce from Monday.
West Bengal is among the states that have given permissions to restart factories. Nearly 72 jute mills in West Bengal employing over 2 lakh people, Haldia Petrochemicals, the biggest petrochemical unit in the East, and ITC’s Tribeni Tissues would start production.
