Bangladesh Election Results 2026 Live: The Bangladesh Nationalist party (BNP) led by Tarique Rahman has claimed a sweeping victory in the country’s first election since a Gen-Z uprising toppled the regime of Sheikh Hasina.

While results were still being tallied, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the party as well as its chief, Tarique Rahman, asserting that India will continue to back democratic Bangladesh.

BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that his party secured a two-thirds majority in the elections.

Speaking to reporters at a party press conference, he also said that Sheikh Hasina’s party, the now-banned Awami League, is “responsible for the rise of Jamaat-e-Islami” in Bangladeshi politics.

“Whenever democracy is suppressed, when it is obstructed, other extremist forces start to rise. That is what happened. The rise of Jamaat-e-Islami today is because of the Awami League,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

The Election Commission has described the 2026 polls as a “neutral and credible” one. Chief Election Commissioner Nasir Uddin said, “I am feeling good. We promised to present an election in a festive atmosphere. We promised to present a completely neutral and credible election to the nation and we do believe we have achieved it. Everyone is recognising this.”

He also took the moment to thank the voters, political leaders, and journalists for making the elections successful. “With the overall cooperation of all, we have been able to present an acceptable election,” Uddin said.

Bangladesh Election Results 2026 Live: As Jamaat-e-Islami trails behind BNP, the party is now saying that it is not “satisfied with the process surrounding the election results”.

“From candidates of the 11-party alliance narrowly and suspiciously losing in various constituencies, to repeated inconsistencies and fabrications in unofficial result announcements, the Election Commission’s reluctance to publish voter turnout percentages, and indications that a section of the administration leaned towards a major party- all of this undoubtedly raises serious questions about the integrity of the results process,” it said.

Bangladesh Election Results 2026 Live: National Citizens’ Party (NCP) candidate Md Nahid Islam has won the Dhaka-11 constituency, according to preliminary results, Prothom Alo reported. Contesting with the water-lily bud symbol, he secured a total of 93,872 votes. Meanwhile, his nearest rival, BNP candidate M A Quayum, received 91,833 votes. Nahid Islam won by a margin of 2,039 votes.

According to the Bangladeshi news outlet, announcing the result at around 6:45 am (local time) on Friday, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner (Returning Officer) Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury said voting was held at 163 polling centres in Dhaka-11, including postal ballots. The turnout stood at 45 per cent.

Bangladesh Election Results 2026 Live: One of the crucial constituencies in the Bangladesh election was Cox’s Bazar 2, where BNP-nominated candidate Alamgir Muhammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid has been unofficially elected with 124,660 votes, Prothom Alo reported.

As per the outlet, Farid’s closest rival was Jamaat’s candidate Hamidur Rahman Azad, who received 89,817 votes, a difference of 34,843 votes. The assistant returning officers of Maheshkhali and Kutubdia upazilas announced this result from their respective upazila offices.

It is pertinent to note that Alamgir Muhammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid is a veteran member of the BNP’s central executive committee. He was previously elected to the parliament as a BNP candidate in 1996 and 2001. Cox’s Bazaar is curcial since it houses significant population of Rohingiya Muslims.
