Centre all set to put off Census, NPR exercise

The Centre looks all set to delay the house-listing Census and updating of the National Population Register(NPR), which was scheduled to start in specific States on April 1, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic

2 government sources confirmed to The Hindu that the Census and NPR workouts will not go on, offered the Union Health Ministry’s own standards restricting mass contact on account of the coronavirus. An official announcement from the Centre is, however, waited for.

In line with Odisha, the Delhi Government has also written to the Centre asking that the Census-NPR operations might be deferred by “a minimum of one month” and the rescheduling of this workout may be “examined in the last week of the deferment”.

President Ram Nath Kovind was supposed to be the very first Indian to be specified in the census and NPR exercise, however the President’s schedule has actually been cleared and he is not satisfying members of the general public due to the growing danger of coronavirus.
