It is being claimed in social media and some reports that China has introduced the world’s best military attack helicopter Z-10, which has the most advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI), recognition and surveillance systems, which is even better than the American AH-64E Apache. But according to experts, this claim is not completely accurate. The Z-10 is a strong helicopter, but still lags behind the Apache in many areas.
Z-10 is developed by Changhe Aircraft Industries Corporation. This is the main attack helicopter of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China. Its first prototype flew in 2003 and has been in service since 2010. Recent upgrades include the Z-10ME version, built for export and supplied to Pakistan.

Key Features of Z-10
- Engine and Performance: The new version has WZ-9G or WZ-16 engines, which work better in high altitude areas (like Tibet or Karakoram). It is more agile with less power loss.
- Weapon: 23mm or 30mm chain gun, anti-tank missiles (such as HJ-10 or CM-502KG), rockets, air-to-air missiles. It can attack tanks, infantrymen and enemy helicopters.

- Better sides of Apache: Longbow radar (can track more than 250 targets simultaneously), Hellfire missiles, more combat experience, better sensor fusion and networking.
- Advantages of Z-10/Z-10ME: Better performance at altitude, lighter weight, higher range (800 km in some reports vs Apache’s 476 km).
- AI claims: The Z-10 has advanced avionics, but no official evidence of the most advanced AI. Apache also has advanced automation, but neither has anything like generative AI. This claim mainly appears to be propaganda.
Experts say that Z-10 is good, but not combat proven like Apache. Pakistan has purchased Z-10ME, while India has acquired Apache – the competition for air power is increasing between the two neighboring countries.
