Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday commissioned a ship and 2 interceptor boats of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in Goa through video conferencing from New Delhi in the background of COVID-19, including muscle to operations of the maritime security agency.
Indigenously developed Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet, interceptor boats C-450 and C-451 were commissioned in Goa by Singh by means of video link.
An ICG spokesperson stated the ship ‘Sachet’, the first in the series of five overseas patrol vessels (OPVs), has been designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) and is fitted with modern navigation and communication devices, sensor and machinery.
He stated this was first time in the Indian maritime history that a Coast Guard ship was commissioned through digital medium, maintaining the rigorous protocol of social distancing in the background of the COVID -19 pandemic.
