Coronavirus: A look at what all is shut across India

NEW DELHI: Various state governments on Sunday took several measures to shut down all non-essential services to check the spread of coronavirus. The Union government has already announced the closure of trains and inter-state transport till March 31 and imposed lockdown in 75 districts where positive Covid-19 cases have been reported. In addition, several states have imposed lockdowns in other districts besides the 75 announced by the Centre.

Here is a look at what all is closed across the country —

Across India

The Central government March 22 decided to shut down all passenger trains, metros rails and inter-state transport buses till March 31. It was decided that all train services will be “suspended till March 31, including the suburban rail services”. However, goods trains are exempted from this suspension. The government on March 22 released a list of 75 districts where only essential services will be allowed to operate.

Uttar Pradesh

The state government on March 20 ordered all malls to be shut with immediate effect and directed officials to sanitise Lucknow, Noida and Kanpur cities. Earlier, the Lucknow district administration ordered closure of all bars, cafes/lounges, hair salons, beauty parlours and eating joints with immediate effect. The district administration ordered closure of all eating points, sweet shops, food stalls, coffee shops, etc also till March 31. The Yogi Adityanath government has imposed lockdown in 15 districts across the state till Wednesday.

The districts where the lockdown has been enforced in the first phase are Lucknow, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Aligarh, Moradabad, Lakhimpur Kheiri, Bareilly, Azamgarh, Meerut, Gorakhpur and Saharanpur.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra on March 20 closed all shops and offices except those providing essential services in India’s financial capital Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur until March 31. The Nashik administration banned the sale of liquor from March 21 till further orders in the district invoking the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act. The order to close bars included those located in five-star hotels and resorts and liquor shops. US carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) also said on March 22 it will halt production at its plant in the western Indian state of Maharashtra till March 31.
