SC stays Orissa HC order on migrants’ entry
A day after the high court barred entry into the state for those workers who tested positive for the virus, the Centre rushed to the apex court and a bench stayed the order. The high court had directed that all migrants seeking to come back to the state were mandatorily required to be tested before boarding and would be allowed to board only if the stranded migrant is tested negative for Covid-19.
84 would-be moms arrive by special flight from Riyadh
The first repatriation flight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, landed at Calicut International Airport with 152 NRIs, including 84 pregnant women, at 8.05pm on Friday. Bombay high court directed the state to take an appropriate decision on sharing transport expenses of migrant workers returning to their homes, after it was informed the government will bear their medical screening expenses. Justice Suresh Gupte heard three PILs via videoconference by some NGOs and Sarva Hara Jan Andolan, a union, which highlighted the plight of migrants following the lockdown in Mumbai.
