Signs of worsening weather have intensified in the coastal areas of South India. Due to this, the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal further organized into Cyclone Ditwah on Thursday. In view of this potentially dangerous system, the Meteorological Department has issued a pre-cyclone alert. The cyclone is moving towards North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coasts, where there has been a warning of extremely bad weather till November 30.
According to IMD, this storm formed near Pottuvil, Sri Lanka. This place is located about 90 km south-southeast of Batticaloa and about 700 km south-southeast of Chennai. Current estimates suggest that Cyclone Ditvah will move in a north-northwest direction and reach near the coasts of Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-South Andhra by the morning of 30 November. However, its exact landfall prediction will still depend on the speed and direction of the system’s movement.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Senyar, which was active a few days ago, has now weakened considerably. Its remnant formed in the Strait of Malacca has weakened from deep pressure to just a depression and is moving eastwards at a speed of 18 km/hour. Meteorologists say that the combined effect of both Ditwah and the weakening Senyar will cause widespread and heavy rains in the South Indian states.
