Delhi turnout: EC says have to ensure accuracy after AAP questions ‘delay’

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Sunday declared that 62.59% final voter turnout was recorded in Delhi assembly elections and defended the “delay” in the release of final figures.

“The voter turnout in Delhi was 62.59%. It is about 2% more than the Lok Sabha elections,” Delhi chief electoral officer Ranbir Singh told reporters during a media briefing.

Playing down AAP’s criticism that there was delay in announcement of final figures, Singh said there was no unusual delay in announcing the final voter turnout figure and explained that the returning officers were busy with scrutiny of data throughout the night to ensure its accuracy.
