Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad A. Bobde on Monday orally stated courts were not “equipped” to handle palpable “pressure” being created to somehow action in and prevent violence in Delhi.
” We are not saying individuals must pass away. This kind of pressure we are not geared up to manage. We can not stop things from occurring. We can not avoid anything … We feel a type of pressure on us … We can not manage that. It is as if the court is responsible”, he remarked. The CJI’s observations came when senior advocate Colin Gonsalves made a discussing before him to urgently step in and pass instructions to jail those providing hate speeches and to prevent spread of violence
Mr. Gonsalves was appearing for Maharashtra resident Shaikh Mujtaba Farooq and nine others from Delhi. The petitioners stated they were assaulted by mobs while in harmony objecting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act
