Method of worshiping Shivaratri (Shivratri Pujan Vidhi)
On the day of Shivratri, bathe the idol of Lord Shiva with Panchamrit. Then offer 8 buckets of saffron water. Light the lamp all night that day. Apply sandalwood tilak. Offer vine leaves, cannabis, dhatura, sugarcane juice, basil, nutmeg, lotus stalks, fruits, sweets, sweet pan, perfume and alms. Lastly, offer khir containing saffron and distribute the prasad. Recite the mantras Om Namo Bhagavate Rudraya, Om Namah Shivaya Rudraya Shambhavaya Bhavanipataye Namo Namah. Recite Shiva Purana on this day. Night vigil is also performed on the day of Shivratri.
