A White House report on national security has claimed that Europe will be “unrecognisable” and that its civilisation risks “erasure” in the face of increasing immigration and an economic decline.
The unauthored document, called National Security Strategy, was signed by President Donald Trump and released on Friday. Trump wrote the foreword of the report, saying that it is a “roadmap to ensure America remains the greatest and most successful nation in human history.”

“This economic decline is eclipsed by the real and more stark prospect of civilisational erasure. Should present trends continue, the continent will be unrecognisable in 20 years or less,” the report said.

Trump highlights Europe’s failures
The report highlights the problem areas of Europe and has statements asserting the continent’s supposed decline. It also blames the European Union for undermining political freedoms and failing to clamp down on immigration, which the US said is fuelling social tensions.
According to the report, the US’s primary objectives in Europe will be to achieve a swift end to the war in Ukraine, foster “resistance to Europe’s current trajectory within European nations,” expand access to European markets for American companies, and halt further NATO expansion.
“Europe remains strategically and culturally vital to the US,” the report said. “Not only can we not afford to write Europe off – doing so would be self-defeating for what this strategy aims to achieve.”
