BRAND-NEW DELHI: Almost 371 categories of items such as toys, steel bars, steel tubes,
consumer electronics
, telecom products, heavy machinery, paper, rubber short articles and glass which are mainly imported from countries such as China would be brought under the obligatory Indian Standards (IS) regime by next March.
This will put a curb on the
import
of sub-standard items.
The commerce ministry
had identified these products in 2015. Officials stated the process has actually been sped up to satisfy the requirement under the Atmanirbha
