In Nangal Soti area of Bijnor, cyber thugs, posing as PNB employees, cheated an elderly heart patient of Rs 10.51 lakh. Information about Aadhaar, PAN and debit card was taken in the name of senior citizen card. A case has been registered on the complaint of the victim and the police is running an awareness campaign.

In Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, cyber thugs, pretending to be employees of Punjab National Bank, defrauded an elderly heart patient of Rs 10 lakh 51 thousand. This case is of Nangal Soti police station area of Bijnor district. According to the victim, first he received a call from mobile number 070054XXXXX. The caller said that he is a senior citizen and his senior citizen card has to be made by PNB. Despite the refusal, the caller called it a necessary procedure. After this a WhatsApp call came from number 87776XXXXX.
On WhatsApp call, the accused asked for Aadhar card, PAN card and debit card numbers. The caller assured that no OTP would be asked and that they were not fraudsters. The victim, describing himself as a heart patient, asked not to be disturbed, but the accused assured that he would get the Senior Citizen Card from the bank by Monday, December 15, 2025 and asked him to keep the phone on.

On the day of the incident, the victims had gone to Dehradun for some work. When he checked his phone between 1 pm and 3 pm, he received messages of first Rs 5 lakh, then Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand and then other amounts being withdrawn from his account. As soon as the victim realized the fraud, he immediately called PNB’s toll free number and started the process of getting his account seized and filing a complaint.
It was told by the bank that about 47 thousand rupees are left in the account and the process of seizure is going on. Meanwhile, while still on the line, the remaining amount was also withdrawn and the account balance became zero. In this way, a total of Rs 10 lakh 51 thousand was withdrawn by cyber thugs. The victim has given a written complaint at Nangal Soti police station demanding registration of a case and strict action against the accused.

Meanwhile, Bijnor Police is running an awareness campaign to prevent cyber fraud. Under the leadership of Abhishek Jha, the police is making informative videos with the help of AI. In these videos, it is being told in what ways cyber thugs ask for information and what information should not be shared by common citizens.
