Amid the ongoing LPG crisis in the country, IRCTC has issued a new advisory regarding food and drink facilities at railway stations. IRCTC has asked catering operators to switch to power appliances like microwave and induction to compensate for the possible shortfall in supply. Also, strict instructions have been given to maintain adequate stock of ‘Ready to Eat’ (RTE) food to meet the demand of passengers.
In the guidelines issued by IRCTC, it is clearly stated that this order is not for running trains, but this rule is only for the shops present at the stations. Under the new rule, stalls and catering units running at railway stations will now have to change their functioning due to shortage of gas.
inform the department
IRCTC has made it clear that lack of LPG should not affect passenger services. That is why it has been suggested to immediately adopt electricity alternatives like microwave and induction. If cooking using gas is completely stopped in any unit, it has been made mandatory to inform the department about it, so that alternative arrangements can be made.
There should be no shortage of food at stations.
As per the new order, operators will have to maintain adequate inventory levels of ‘Ready to Eat’ (RTE) food in addition to standard PAD and other food items. Its objective is to ensure that even if cooking fresh food is not possible due to non-availability of gas, food packets can be easily made available to passengers. In this era of energy crisis, the Railway Administration is already making concrete preparations for the convenience of the passengers, so that there is no shortage of food at the stations.
