Govt announces ‘one nation, one ration card,’ rental real estate plan for migrant employees

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday revealed the launch of a scheme to supply houses to migrant labour/urban poor at cost effective rent, and extended the interest aid plan for middle-income families till March 2021 to increase real estate need.

The extension of the CLSS (Credit Linked Aid Scheme) will benefit 2.5 lakh middle-income households during this and will cause an investment of over Rs 70,000 crore in the housing sector, besides job creation.

Announcing the decisions, financing minister Nirmala Sitharaman said “the government will launch a brand-new plan under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for migrant labour/urban poor to supply ease of living at an inexpensive rent.”

Migrant labour and metropolitan poor face difficulties in getting homes at budget-friendly lease, she stated.

Under the scheme, government-funded housing in the cities will be converted into Budget friendly
