Illegal business was going on at three levels
SSP Vipin Tada said that this gang was active in Meerut and surrounding districts for a long time. Many cases are already registered against the main accused Ajay and his history sheet is also open. The police had been keeping an eye on his network for a long time.
Investigation revealed that this smuggling network worked at three levels – first, those bringing consignments from outside; Secondly, those who handle the supply in Meerut and thirdly, those who sell ganja in retail. Ganja was brought from Jharkhand and other states through cars and was sold in small packets in different areas.
Supply chain activated through social media and shops
According to the police, smugglers used to finalize deals through social media and phone calls. Many people, from college students to small businessmen, were in contact with him. Paan shops, tea stalls, dhabas and tea stalls were their main network points from where retail supplies were made.
SSP said that earlier similar smugglers were caught in Daurala and Pallavapuram also. By combining the information continuously received, the police finally succeeded in reaching this big gang.
Police claim: There will be more arrests
During interrogation of the arrested smugglers, the police have found more names associated with the network, the search for which is going on. Police claim that soon other suppliers will also be arrested. The recovered 151 kg ganja was caught before it could reach the hands of smugglers, which the accused were preparing to sell in Meerut and surrounding districts at different rates. Police are now searching for big links by scanning the data of the entire network.
