Political turmoil is intensifying in Karnataka amid speculations about change of power. Meanwhile, state Excise Minister BR Thimmapur has openly said that if the Congress high command decides to make a Dalit leader the Chief Minister, then he is also ready to stake claim.

Thimmapur said on Friday, “If the party high command accepts that the chief minister should be a Dalit, then we will also tell who can become the chief minister. And if I am given a chance, will I refuse?”

He further said that the Chief Minister and Prime Minister are not directly elected by the public, but get the post only through political process and parliamentary tradition. After becoming Chief Minister, many of them became members of Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha. Many people became Chief Minister and then contested elections as MLA. If someone gets a chance, he should accept it.”

This statement of Thimmapur has come at a time when discussions about change of leadership are intensifying within the Congress government. For the past few weeks, political rumors called November Revolution were spreading in the state, in which it was being said that a new face could be replaced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

However, there has been no official response from the Congress leadership on this yet. Whereas CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar themselves have rejected these speculations.

No differences, November Revolution just a rumour: DK Shivakumar

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar completely rejected the discussions of change of leadership. He said that the government is completely united. Whatever the Chief Minister and I said is the Congress’s stand, what anyone else says has no importance.

Shivkumar also clarified that he has complete coordination with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress’s focus is only on development and good governance.
