Revisiting his “Canada should become the 51st state of the US”, President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday called Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the “Governor” of the “Great State of Canada.”

Trump said, “It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada. I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!”

There has been tension between Trump and Trudeau ever since the former announced a whopping 25 per cent
tariff on Canada which will in turn hurt its economy. After the prime minister said such a high tariff would “kill” Canada’s economy, Trump suggested that the country should become a part of the United States and become the 51st state.

Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20, said he would impose a 25 per cent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico until they clamped down on drugs, particularly fentanyl, and
migrants crossing the border, in a move that would appear to violate a free-trade deal.

Trudeau meets Trump

The forthcoming imposition of the tariff made Canada anxious so much that Trudeau made an unannounced visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The two leaders discussed “many important topics” including fentanyl, illegal immigration, and trade, Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Thanks for dinner last night, President Trump. I look forward to the work we can do together, again,” Trudeau wrote on X.
