Kashmir saffron, which is cultivated and collected in the Karewa (highlands) of Jammu and Kashmir, has actually been provided the Geographical Indicator (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Pc Registry.

The application was filed by the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, and helped with by the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Farming Sciences and Innovation, Kashmir, and Saffron Research Station, Dussu (Pampore).
