BHOPAL: The political drama in Madhya Pradesh seems headed for another twist. Law minister P C Sharma said on Sunday evening that the Governor’s directive to the Speaker to hold a floor test on Monday is “only a message and not a direction”, indicating that the make-or-break division may not happen on the opening day of budget session.
CM Kamal Nath called on Governor Lalji Tandon at midnight on Sunday. After a 40-minute meeting, Nath said: “The Governor wanted to meet me, so I visited him.” On the issue on floor test he said, “It will be conducted by the Speaker. The Speaker will do his job and I’ll do mine. I have told the Governor that I am ready for the floor test, but 21 of my MLAs are being held captive” said Nath.
The agenda of the assembly, released around 9pm on Sunday, doesn’t mention floor test. It only lists the Governor’s address and motion of thanks.
Floor test is not the only thing uncertain. There’s suspense over whether the 22 breakaway MLAs of Scindia faction, lodged in Bengaluru since March 9, will return on Monday.
Speaker N P Prajapati sparked speculation by saying he wouldn’t reply to “hypothetical questions on the floor test” and will take decision in the House.
