External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended the silver jubilee celebrations of the Aditya Birla Group Scholarship Program in Mumbai on Sunday. In this program, he expressed confidence in India’s relations with Washington despite global concerns after the victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential elections. He highlighted PM Narendra Modi’s rapport with US presidents, from Barack Obama to Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and his ability to build strong relationships.
When asked about the impact of Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election on India-US relations in the context of his strong personal relationship with PM Modi, S Jaishankar said, ‘I think that President Trump, after his victory, Prime Minister Modi was also included in the first three calls. PM Modi has indeed had strong personal relations with many US Presidents. When he first went to Washington DC, Obama was president, then Donald Trump, then Joe Biden. It is very natural for them. He builds strong personal relationships with leaders. This helps a lot.
