The hours-long gunbattle in between Afghan security forces and insurgents in Jalalabad was still continuous Sunday evening, and casualties were most likely to rise.

A gunbattle in between Islamic State fighters and Afghan security forces raved at a prison in the eastern city of Jalalabad on Monday, with a minimum of 24 people killed after the militants’ overnight attack caused a mass jailbreak.

The attack began on Sunday evening with vehicle bomb detonated at the entrance to the jail, and there were numerous other blasts heard as the IS gunmen opened fire on guard.

Some 30 militants associated with the attack on the prison, where some 2,000 prisoners were held, according to Sohrab Qaderi
