At least 82 individuals were killed when a Pakistan International Airlines aircraft with 99 people on board crashed into a densely inhabited suburb near the Jinnah International Airport here on Friday, authorities said, nearly a week after the COVID-19- induced flight constraints were raised by the federal government.
Flight PK-8303 from Lahore crashed at the Jinnah Garden location near Model Colony in Malir minutes before its landing in Karachi, they said.
The PIA Airplane A320 carrying 91 guests and eight team members has crash-landed into the Jinnah Real estate Society located near the airport, a representative of the nationwide provider said.
Thick black smoke rose from the accident scene in the Model Nest location.
Sindh Health Minister Azra Pechuho informed the media late Friday night that 82 bodies have been recovered from the website of the crash up until now. It is, however, unclear if the deceased were all on board the flight or consist of homeowners of the area where the crash happened.
She said there are two survivors, consisting of President of the Bank of Punjab Zafar Masood. He contacted his mother to notify her of his wellness.
“We do not understand precisely the number of are injured as yet as we were currently in an emergency circumstance due to COVID-19(outbreak) …,” she said.
