The US has urged the European Union to impose tariffs on Russian oil buyers, so that Putin can be pressured to end the Eucign War. On this, China gave a strong message to Washington on Saturday. During the state visit to Slovenia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Beijing neither plotting wars nor participates in them. He insisted that war problems are not solved and economic restrictions only increase complications.
Wang Yi’s statement came a few hours after the letter from US President Donald Trump, in which he appealed to NATO member countries to stop purchasing Russian oil and put a tariff of up to 100 percent on Moscow’s biggest buyer China. Trump wrote in a letter addressed to NATO members and the whole world, ‘I am ready to impose a big restriction on Russia when all NATO nations agree and start doing so, and when all NATO nations stop buying oil from Russia.’

The US President appealed for collective action and said that he had gone to take action against Russia when NATO members agreed. He wrote in the letter, ‘I am ready when you are ready. Just when to say? ‘ America has already imposed tariffs to buy Russian oil on India, but has not yet imposed any tariff on China.

China is Russia’s largest oil buyer, which has imported a record 109 million tonnes of oil in 2024, which is about 20 percent of its total energy imports.
