Now internship will be necessary in graduation, know what is FYUP plan of UGC

UGC has made major changes in the undergraduate program. Under the New Education Policy (NEP), the University Grants Commission (UGC) has prepared a new draft of the Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP), it can be announced on Monday (December 12, 2022). According to the draft of the new UGC rules, now internship will also be necessary in graduate courses.

The new undergraduate program emphasizes experiential learning along with book learning. To obtain the UG Certificate, a 4 credit work based learning internship has to be undergone during the summer term. This information has been given in the new curriculum framework. Under this, students who want to exit after the first two semesters will have to do internship to get UG certificate.

Employability will improve

A major aspect of the new program of courses is to involve the student in real work situations. With this, all the students will be associated with researchers in any firm, industry, faculty, organization or laboratory for training, internship, apprenticeship etc. in their own or other institution. During the summer period, internship opportunities will be provided by higher educational institutions with a variety of course-related organizations including local industry, trade organizations, local governments, parliament or elected representatives, media organizations, artists, craftsmen, etc. Be able to engage with the subject practically and actively. UGC officials believe that this will improve employability. Its purpose is also to inform about economic and social issues.

Honors degree of graduation only after completing four years

Explain that according to the draft of the new UGC rules, students will get graduate ‘honours’ degree only after completing four years instead of three. If a student wants to do research specialization then they have to start a research project in their four year course. This will give them an honors degree with research specialization. At present, students get an honors degree after completing a three-year UG course.
