Shopkeepers beat up for hours
Police said that this person was accused of stealing a mobile phone and gas cylinder from a shop. After being caught shoplifting, a group of shopkeepers take the law into their own hands.
The accused was tied to a wooden pole and then beaten with sticks and kicks and punches for hours. The crowd also recorded a video of this entire incident and circulated it on social media. It is clearly visible in the video how the young man was groaning in pain, but the crowd continued beating him.

FIR registered after video went viral
Puranpur police station in-charge Pawan Pandey said that after this video surfaced on social media, the police immediately took cognizance. On the complaint of outpost in-charge Arun Kumar, FIR (Primary) has been registered against unknown persons.
The police stressed that no one is allowed to take the law into their own hands, even if the charge is theft. Under the law, only the judiciary has the right to punish the accused.
At present, the police have started a thorough investigation of the case and on the basis of the video, efforts are being made to identify and arrest the people involved in the attack. Police say that soon all the accused will be arrested and strict legal action will be taken against them.
