Operation Water Relief-2: More than 800 people were rescued from flood affected areas in Manipur

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles launched ‘Operation Jal Relief-2’ in view of the severe floods in various parts of Manipur and the appeal of assistance from the District Deputy Commissioner. The most affected areas of this disaster were deployed quickly in the Assam Rifles at Pormapat, Vankhai, Sanjenthong, Palace Compound, New Checkon, Khurai Hacrumakhong Henang, Soibam Likai, Vankhai Angom Likai, Nonggabung Rajbadi.

Two major rescue columns were activated under the operation. The first contingent rescued 193 people in Wankhai Khunau, which included 85 women and 44 children. The second contingent rescued 182 people in Hacrumakhong, including 90 women and 57 children. 408 people were also evacuated from other places, including 179 women and 92 children. Overall, about 800 people were evacuated safely, including 10-20 especially competent and old people.

All people were rushed to safe places and provided water, food and immediate medical help. Health experts of Assam Rifles brought relief to the spot. Meanwhile, on receiving an appeal to help the children missing from Khurai, the army immediately conducted a search operation and found all the children safely in the afternoon.

In another notable action, Assam Rifles transferred his staff and communication equipment to a safe place at the request of the Director of All India Radio (AIR) Imphal. The office was submerged in flood waters and this emergency had arisen. During the entire rescue operation, the soldiers performed relief work under high pressure and difficult conditions. With the help of rescue boats and fully equipped teams, flood victims were provided all possible assistance.
