Ethiopia has honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest honor ‘Great Honor Nishan’. He was given this honor by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. PM Modi said, ‘I have been awarded Ethiopia’s highest honour. It is a matter of great pride for me to be honored by the world’s most ancient and rich civilization. On behalf of all Indians, I accept this honor with full humility and gratitude. This honor belongs to the countless Indians who shaped our partnership. He is the first foreign head of state to receive Ethiopia’s highest honour.
Ethiopia is the 28th country in the world, which has given its highest honor to PM Modi. During this, PM Modi said in his address that today when the eyes of the whole world are on the Global South, Ethiopia’s long-standing tradition of self-respect, independence and self-respect is a strong inspiration for all of us. The future belongs to those partnerships that are based on vision and trust. Together with Ethiopia, we are committed to pursuing cooperation that both addresses changing global challenges and creates new possibilities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, expressed gratitude for the support received by India against terrorism. At the beginning of the delegation-level talks, Prime Minister Modi said that India deeply respects the condolences expressed by Ethiopia on the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the support received in our fight against terrorism. During this, agreement was reached between the two countries on 8 issues including political, economic, defence, developmental cooperation, trade and investment.

Prime Minister Modi said, ‘The support of friendly countries strengthens us in our fight against terrorism. We appreciate this common vision and cooperation with Ethiopia. He also reiterated his commitment to further deepen cooperation between the two countries. During this, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali stressed on strengthening relations with India and said that in the present time there is a need to shape a modern and visionary partnership, which is based on sovereignty, self-reliance and mutual cooperation.

He said that relations between India and Ethiopia are inspired by the spirit of equality and ‘South-South Solidarity’. Abiy Ahmed praised Prime Minister Modi’s thinking, in which Africa’s priorities have been placed at the center of partnership. He said, ‘We appreciate your continued view that Africa’s priorities must lead this partnership. This respectful and dignified message is very important for Africa.
He urged India to continue raising the voice of Africa’s interests in international forums. There was a detailed discussion between the two countries in the delegation level talks. Both leaders agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation among developing countries and jointly tackle global challenges. The Prime Ministers of India and Ethiopia made it clear that this partnership will strengthen in the coming years on the basis of mutual respect, equality and cooperation.
